John’s practice focuses on patent prosecution and patent and trademark litigation. His previous experience as a chemist in the private sector provides him with unique insight to understand and address his clients’ needs.
While attending Notre Dame Law School, John worked in the IP Clinic where he assisted South Bend residents with various IP needs and made recommendations on the best IP coverage available. He also conducted research on inter partes reviews under Professor Stephen Yelderman and worked for the Legal Information and Prosecutions department of the City of Chicago Department of Law. While working for the city, he conducted research regarding prosecution and home rule authority implications of city policies and assisted city attorneys in ownership determinations of vacant properties.
Before practicing law, John worked as a research assistant studying catalyst creation, gaining skills in inorganic and analytical chemistry. After completing his undergraduate degree, John worked in the chemical industry at BASF, focusing on battery material research and development. He also participated in patent reviews to identify current state of the art and potential threats to BASF’s IP and ran the department’s analytical lab in the Electrochemical Application Center, where he oversaw three technicians. He was on the first responder team for the site, and was the coordinator of the 5S workplace organization program for a department of over 20 people.
