Trevor Copeland and Stephen Smith to Present at CI Medical Device Licensing, Co-Development, and Collaborative Agreements Conference

Trevor K. Copeland and Stephen C. Smith will be speakers at the upcoming ACI Medical Device Licensing, Co-Development, and Collaborative Agreements conference in Chicago. Mr. Copeland will be speaking on Tuesday, November 13 at 4:30 p.m. The session is entitled “Fixing Agreements Gone Wrong: Tales from the School of Hard Knocks.” The session will serve as a guided retrospective of licensing terms that lead to litigation, and offer strategies to leverage your position during initial deal making, as well as later renegotiation or settlement discussions.

On the afternoon of Wednesday, November 14, Mr. Smith will be discussing patent reform on the panel, “America Invents Act and Prometheus: Analyzing the Changing Patent Landscape and its Potential Impact on Licensing and Due Diligence.'

The panel will address: 

  • Understanding effect of changes to the novelty and obviousness standards
  • Discussing prosecution strategy in view of the changes with the AIA and recent case law
  • Parsing changes to prior user rights provisions
  • Recognizing the impact of the Act on the value and viability of trade secrets and on the role of the inventor
