Brinks Gilson & Lione shareholder featured on Comcast Newsmakers
ANN ARBOR – Steven L. Oberholtzer, shareholder and managing partner of the Ann Arbor office of Brinks Gilson & Lione, one of the largest intellectual property law firms in the U.S., was a recent guest on Comcast Newsmakers, a news show featuring Michigan business, government and community leaders discussing timely issues.
The subject of Oberholtzer’s interview, which was taped on May 15, was the role innovation plays in Michigan’s rebounding economy. Oberholtzer, who provided input and oversight for the 2014 edition of the Michigan Entrepreneurship Scorecard, noted in the Comcast interview that Michigan’s entrepreneurial climate is gaining momentum again and innovation in the auto industry in particular continues to lead Michigan’s innovation initiatives.
“The auto industry continues to introduce powerful new technologies, notably in safety and autonomous driving, that help make Michigan a leading innovator, ranked sixth in the nation in 2013 for the number of patents awarded,” said Oberholtzer. “Michigan also has many effective programs in place state-wide that are supporting and nurturing the entrepreneurial climate here, as well as growing technology transfer programs from Michigan’s strong public university system.”
Oberholtzer, celebrating 30 years as an attorney in 2014, is a member of the board of directors at Brinks Gilson & Lione and has received numerous honors for his legal accomplishments, including being named the 2014 Ann Arbor patent law “Lawyer of the Year” by Best Lawyers®. He is the lead author of Brinks’ proprietary IP Primer and has extensive experience and expertise in the intellectual property legal issues of the automotive industry.
The Comcast Newsmakers interview with Oberholtzer, which was taped in two separate segments, is scheduled to air on Headline News the week of June 16 and can be viewed here. A longer version of the interview began airing on Channel 900 on Xfinity on Demand across the state of Michigan on May 26. The Michigan Entrepreneurship Score card can be viewed here.
