Brinks Gilson & Lione Patent Litigators Ropski, Shin To Present at Managing Intellectual Property U.S. Patent Forum 2017
February 17, 2017

CHICAGO—Gary M. Ropski and Miyoung Shin, shareholders and patent litigators at intellectual property law firm Brinks Gilson & Lione, will participate in the panel session “PTAB & the District Court” at the Managing Intellectual Property U.S. Patent Forum 2017, on March 21, 2017 at the Four Seasons Hotel Silicon Valley in Palo Alto, California.

Ropski will moderate and Shin will be a panelist for a discussion of the interface between district court litigation and inter partes reviews in post-grant proceedings. The panel will address discrepancies between districts with regard to the success of stay motions, identification of real parties in interest, and effective rationales for demonstrating obviousness, at the district court and at the Patent Trial and Appeal Board of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
Gary Ropski has 40 years of experience in complex litigation, having sat first- or second-chair in more than 125 patent, trademark, and copyright cases. He has handled high-stakes cases before key district courts for patent litigation, and precedent-setting appeals before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Ropski is admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court, the Supreme Court of Illinois, and the USPTO, as well as numerous federal courts.

Miyoung Shin co-chairs the post-grant patent practice group at Brinks Gilson & Lione. Her practice includes all areas of patent law, with a particular focus on complex, rapidly evolving issues such as post-grant proceedings, patent protection, and enforcement. A trained electrical engineer, Shin argues before the USPTO and the district courts on behalf of clients with innovations in the areas of electrical and mechanical engineering and computer science.

The Managing Intellectual Property U.S. Patent Forum 2017 will bring together leaders from corporations, industry associations, and the legal field to discuss prevailing U.S. patent issues and provide guidance on handling IP portfolios in a globalized world.
