Kent Genin focuses his practice on patent litigation and prosecution, and has extensive experience preparing and prosecuting patent applications both inside the U.S. and internationally. Kent guides clients on developing and managing their patent portfolios and helps them develop strategies for weighing opportunities and costs when considering international patent protection. His work has involved a wide variety of technologies and business areas, including telecommunications systems, memory devices, software, business methods, medical devices, automotive technology, and manufacturing equipment. Kent also counsels clients regarding patentability, validity, infringement, and licensing issues.

With a background in electrical engineering, Kent has the deep technical knowledge necessary to quickly grasp an inventor’s work and focus on what needs protecting. He believes in zeroing in on the highest value technologies that drive his clients’ business goals and securing tailored patent protection. Having spent time working in the industry in product management roles, Kent understands the competitive realities that his clients face.

Throughout his legal career, Kent has served as adjunct faculty at several prominent law schools, including Northwestern, Loyola, and Valparaiso. His teaching background keeps him informed on developments in patent law; by staying informed and understanding his clients’ business goals, Kent is able to advise on all the options they have available to them, and work out tailored solutions to protect their crucial innovations.
